The Look Up

The sophomore season premiere of Showtime’s remake of British Channel 4 series Shameless has been leaked on the internet. Now, there are few things in this world that are more beautiful than Emmy Rossum. There are also fewer things that I appreciate more than Emmy Rossum playing Fiona Gallagher. A leading role that requires the portrayal a 21 year-old forced to take full care of her 5 younger siblings; mixing strength, fearlessness, and bravery at the surface, while conveying the wholesomeness that is her core. A character with rebellious tendencies but a set of principles that are more important to her than anything in her world. A character that knows family first but knows the needs of herself as well. Fiona Gallagher requires a sense of courageousness mixed with a hint of danger. Emmy Rossum could’ve played any of the standard Hollywood character-types that a young, beautiful actress usually plays, but she chose this one. A daring role that requires her to win hearts with her decency while at the same time complying to the hefty amount of coarse language and on-screen nudity time. For that, we commend her.
